چکیده

Previous studies have shown that the expandable nail system (Fixion) can provide rapid stabilisation of long bone fractures with reduced operative time and low complication rates. Patients with humeral shaft fracture were treated consecutively over a two-year period in our institution with the Fixion nail. Nineteen Fixion nailings were performed in 16 patients over a 2 year period. All fractures were diaphyseal and closed. Eight primary fracture stabilisations were performed and we recorded 2 nonunions in this group, both associated with rotational instability at the fracture site. Six nailings were performed in 4 patients for fracture non-union with a mean operative time of 127.5 minutes. One case did not unite despite 3 separate Fixion nailing procedures. Five operations were performed for a pathological fracture, with a mean operative time of 79 minutes; they all united. We did not experience advantages of this nail as mentioned in previous studies and the complication rate was higher than previously stated.

Use of Titanium Elastic Nails in the Adult Diaphyseal Humerus Fractures

Introduction: Humerus shaft fractures in adults can be managed conservatively with functional braces or operatively with plate osteosynthesis or with intramedullary nailing. Conventionally humerus intramedullary nailing is done either using humerus interlocking nails or Enders nails. In this study we analyse the outcome of humerus shaft fractures (upper and middle third) managed with closed ant...

Extended Neviaser portal approach to antegrade humeral nailing.

Certain arthropathies can distort the normal acromiohumeral relationship and make traditional anterolateral access to the proximal humerus for nailing difficult or impossible. This article presents a case of bilateral antegrade humeral nailing in which the Neviaser portal approach was used for humeral shaft fractures in a patient with distorted shoulder anatomy secondary to severe cuff tear art...

Treatment of acute tibial shaft fractures with an expandable nailing system: a systematic review of the literature.

Locked Intramedullary Nailing is an established method of treatment for tibial shaft fractures. Locking of tibial nails is however not without its drawbacks. Locking is time consuming, and is associated with a noteworthy complication rate. The Fixion IM nailing system is an expandable nail designed to eliminate some of these drawbacks. We have performed a systematic review of the literature to ...

[Treatment of humeral shaft fractures using Hackethal's technique of intramedullary bundle nailing].

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY To inform on our experience with the treatment of humeral shaft fractures by intramedullary osteosynthesis using Hackethal's bundle nailing and to evaluate indications for the current use of this technique. MATERIAL AND METHODS From January 2001 to December 2009, a total of 184 patients with humeral shaft fractures were treated surgically and, of these, 147 by Hackethal's n...

مقایسه تأثیر پوزیشن طاقباز یا خوابیده به پهلو در میزان مال روتیشن در درمان

Abstract Background: Femoral malrotation is one of the most common complications following closed intramedullary nailing, (IMN). We hypothesized that the patients’ position during surgery can affect the incidence and severity of this complication. The aim of the study was to compare the incidence and severity of femoral malrotation in patients with femoral diaphyseal fractures treated with IMN...
